Off Heap
Welcome to the Best Java News podcast! The podcast started when four friends always got together and start discussing the current Java News and Technologies. Since each of us had such a different perspective on the Java Ecosystem (Freddy is a Performance nut, Bob is a Consultant, Michael runs Spring Batch and Josh works with Java Enteprise) we got into pretty interesting (and sometimes controversial) discussions. Figuring out that we could have fun while discovering the news we decided to turn on the mics and record.
That’s how Java OffHeap is born. Just four engineers (and guests) talking about what’s happening to our favorite programming language. So come on and subscribe already!

OffHeap 90. The Dating Game at Devnexus 2025
Oh my, Spring is around the corner and OffHeap was again invited to be part of DevNexus! This episode is so awesome because we got a chance to talk to three Open Source Foundations: Apache Software Foundation, Eclipse Foundation, and CommonHaus Foundation. We discussed how they are similar, and (more interestingly) how they are different.…

OffHeap 88. Of Smart Agents that help you code better…or worse?
So Coding Agents are here to stay. And they are hitting everywhere we go! (at a cheap price!). So what do we make of them. Do they help? do they hinder? Do we like using them? or, is it risky to use them? There are now practical questions we ponder…

OffHeap 83. Happy New Year! (and start dusting that resume)
Hopefully we are all rested and ready to tackle this 2024. There is already a ton going on with AI, but front and center has been the current job market news (it’s dire). Even so, when a new door closes, a new (shiny AI-ish) door opens. Here we…

OffHeap 81. Is the guilded age of open source over?
ElasticSearch, Akka, Hashicorp, and Red Hat are starting to change their licensing models. What used to be considered open source (Apache, GPL, MIT) is morphing (with an asterisk) for the large open source projects that we know and love. But…

OffHeap 80. The invasion of the virtual programming robots!
It IS time…and everyone is talking about it! With the new Large Language Models like OpenAI and Github Copilot, and Bard (and all the others), what does it mean for developers? Is it an existential threat? a doomsday scenario? or is all being blown…
